Spring is a favorite time of year for me. Getting in the garden, longer days, and warmer weather are a great wake up from the winter. However, Spring can also mean allergies which can make all the outside things you love to do a misery. We have manual lymphatic drainage, facial cupping, and sinus massages available at Awaken, but here are some tips to allow you to smell the roses this time of year!

  1. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your nasal passages moist and help thin mucus, making it easier to drain.

  2. Use a Humidifier (Or a diffuser): Adding moisture to the air with a humidifier can help relieve congestion and soothe irritated sinuses. Make sure to clean the humidifier regularly to prevent mold and bacteria buildup.

  3. Nasal Irrigation: Try using a saline nasal rinse or neti pot to flush out pollen, dust, and other irritants from your nasal passages. This can help reduce congestion and alleviate sinus pressure.

  4. Steam Inhalation: Inhaling steam can help moisturize and soothe inflamed sinus tissues. You can take a hot shower or breathe in steam from a bowl of hot water with a towel draped over your head.

  5. Warm Compress: Applying a warm compress to your face can help ease sinus pain and pressure. Simply soak a washcloth in warm water, wring out excess moisture, and place it over your sinuses for a few minutes.

  6. Stay Indoors on Windy Days: Windy days can stir up allergens and irritants, exacerbating sinus symptoms. If possible, stay indoors on windy days, especially during peak pollen times.

  7. Local Honey: Consuming local honey may help alleviate seasonal allergies by gradually exposing your body to small amounts of pollen. Add a teaspoon of local honey to your tea or incorporate it into your meals to potentially reduce allergy symptoms.

  8. Herbal Teas: Enjoy herbal teas such as chamomile, peppermint, or ginger tea, which can help soothe inflammation, reduce congestion, and promote sinus drainage.

  9. Essential Oils: Use essential oils such as eucalyptus, peppermint, or tea tree oil in a diffuser or steam inhalation to help clear nasal passages and relieve sinus congestion.

  10. Nettle Leaf: Nettle leaf tea or supplements may have antihistamine properties and can help reduce allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itching, and congestion.

  11. Steam Inhalation with Herbs: Add dried herbs like thyme, rosemary, or eucalyptus to a bowl of hot water for steam inhalation. These herbs have natural antimicrobial and decongestant properties that can help clear nasal passages and relieve sinus pressure.

  12. Warm Salt Water Gargle: Gargling with warm salt water can help soothe a sore throat and reduce inflammation in the nasal passages, providing relief from sinus discomfort.

  13. Stay Well-Rested: Ensure you get enough sleep each night to support your immune system and promote overall health. A well-rested body is better equipped to fight off allergies and infections.

  14. Stay Active: Regular exercise can help improve circulation and boost your immune system, reducing the frequency and severity of sinus symptoms.
